  • Undergraduate physics, Wadham College, Oxford, UK.

  • DPhil, Oxford, UK.

  • I studied the properties of discs surrounding supermassive black holes.

  • I currently work on developing  physical theories describing the accretion of material onto astrophysical black holes.

  • I am interested in the effects of strong gravity on fluid dynamics. New developments in these fields include developing theories of accretion during the fluid’s final plunge onto the black hole, a relativistic theory of time-dependent accretion, and new solutions of Einstein’s orbital equations.

  • I work on understanding the properties of the turbulent variability in these systems, and on the cosmic censorship conjecture. Recent results have direct astronomical relevance and can be tested with observations of tidal disruption events, black hole X-ray binaries and active galactic nuclei; some of the most energetic objects in the Universe.
